The Town of Harpers Ferry

On a wooded islet at the conjunction of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers in Jefferson County, West Virginia, rests a small town known in the past as Harper's Ferry. While its apostrophe was lost to history, Harpers Ferry gained a huge amount of historical significance before, during, and after the greatest period of turmoil in American history: the American Civil War.
